"It's the end of an Era: Communist Icon the great V. S. Achuthanandan is no more"

Veteran communist leader and former Kerala Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan passed away on today (July 21, 2025), at the age of 101 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He had been undergoing treatment at SUT Hospital following a cardiac arrest on June 23, 2025. He is a key figure in Kerala’s political history, Achuthanandan was known for his uncompromising stance on corruption, land reforms, and social justice. His death marks the end of an era in Indian leftist politics. As a mark of respect to the departed soul, all State Government offices, educational institutions including professional colleges, State Public Sector Undertakings, Statutory bodies, Autonomous institutions and all institutions under the purview of Negotiable Instruments Act, throughout the State, shall remain closed on Tuesday the 22nd July, 2025. Three days State mourning will be observed throughout the State from 22.07.2025. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast on all Government buildings throughout the State during the period.
